Dr Justin Grace

After graduation in 2016, I completed my compulsory community service during 2017 within the Gauteng provincial government in South Africa. In 2018, I started my South Africa and European residency (simultaneously) in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Faculty (University of Pretoria). Upon completing my residency in 2021 I moved to the United Kingdom for a 6-month working stint at Eastcott Referral Hospital and returned to South Africa where I was appointed as senior lecture anaesthesiologist at Onderstepoort Veterinary Faculty. In 2023, I emigrated to Sydney after being appointed as a senior lecturer at University of Sydney. In 2024, I relocated to the University of Utah, USA to assist in research for 6 months before returning to Sydney and joining ARH Homebush. Experiences that shaped my career: • I completed my master’s degree investigating immobilisation of African buffalo. • Maintained a silverback gorilla under inhalant anaesthesia during a helicopter flight (first case ever). • Worked in exotics, zoological and marine facilities. • I have clinical anaesthesia experience in wide variety of species. I am obsessed with the weird and exciting physiological changes that occur during general anaesthesia and how to correct them effectively. Ensuring the patient has a safe and favourable anaesthetic outcome.
