Laura qualified with a BSc (Honors) degree in Veterinary Nursing in 2010 and subsequently became a registered vet nurse with the RCVS working in the UK. In 2015 she moved to Australia and began her journey into emergency and critical care and has since worked in a range of nursing and leadership positions in multiple specialty clinics, mainly based in intensive care units and emergency rooms but also dabbling in internal medicine and surgical specialties. Laura now works as the clinical development and operational support specialist ECC vet nurse at Ready Vet Go, Melbourne's Vet Ambulance Service! During all this, Laura has gained extra qualifications, including completing her certificate in ECC nursing in 2019 and passing the vigorous application process and examination to gain her VTS (ECC) status in 2022! Laura is a self-confessed nerd that not only loves learning but also teaching and empowering others to learn more! This is why she started her continued education venture, 'Veterinary Emergency Specialty Training' aka VEST (@Laurarvn.vest on Instagram) so that she could share her experience and knowledge to help others learn and develop their skills. Laura’s other passion is the progression of the vet nursing profession. She is a lecturer at Melbourne Polytechnic/La Trobe University’s bachelor’s degree of Veterinary nursing where she loves teaching future nurses! Laura is also constantly working with different organisations to try and improve the standardisation, recognition and regulation surrounding the veterinary nurse profession.

Dr Susan Beths (Sooze) is a Senior lecturer in exotic animals, birds, and wildlife at the University of Melbourne Veterinary School, along with working clinically seeing exotic pets in the Greencross Veterinary Hospital at Melbourne University. Sooze is the Head of Primary Care and Shelter Medicine for the University team. Sooze is also a veterinarian with Zoos Victoria, working at Werribee Open Range Zoo, and an emergency vet at Geelong Animal Emergency. She has memberships in Medicine and Surgery of Unusual Pets and is a qualified marine mammal medic. Sooze graduated from Glasgow University and worked in the UK before moving to the Caribbean. After 7 years there, she moved to Australia. In each job, she’s worked with a wide range of small mammals, reptile, and avian pets along with wildlife. Sooze has also worked in Ecuador with rescued primates and South Africa with large game. Sooze is the current President for the AVA's Unusual Pets and Avian Veterinarian group. 

Associate/Prof Thierry Beths joined the the University of Melbourne (UoM) Veterinary Hospital in February 2012 working in the Anaesthesia and Analgesia department. He did a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Glasgow (UK) from 1997-2000. In 2008, he obtained from the same University a PhD on developing a Target Controlled Infusion (TCI) system for propofol in dogs. He has a strong interest in animal welfare and pain management. He is the chair of one the UoM Melbourne Animal Ethic committee (since 2016) and a Cat A member (since 2014) for the Wildlife Small Industry AEC (Agriculture Victoria). He is an active member (since 2018) of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (Agriculture Victoria).  He has a certification (CVA) in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute and China National Society of TCVM Florida (USA) and a certification (CVPP) of Veterinary Pain Practitioner from the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management (IVAPM). In 2020 he graduated from the University of Edinburgh (UK) with a MSc (Dist) in Clinical Pain Management. He recently started training in Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee (USA) and hope to graduate as a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) by the end of 2025.  

For over 16 years Maggie has worked in small animal general practice. Her passion for dentistry led to her obtaining the Diploma of Veterinary Nursing (Dental) and the Veterinary Technician Specialty VTS (Dentistry). She has worked & studied under Veterinary Dental Specialists both in Australia and the United States and remains current with trends in this field. Maggie is experienced in conducting nurse dental clinics and assisting in both general practice and advanced specialty procedures. As an experienced and qualified trainer, she has provided training in dentistry to veterinary teams both domestically and internationally and as a Member of the WSAVA Global Dental Committee represents the pivotal role that veterinary nurses play in the care of the dental patient. Her passion for dentistry is contagious and she brings that to her role with iM3 in providing further educational opportunities to veterinary teams across the country. 

Wye Li graduated in 2010 from the University of Sydney, and spent three years as a mixed general practitioner, four years as a shelter veterinarian, and two years as an emergency veterinarian. He completed his rotating internship and surgery residency at the Animal Referral Hospital Canberra. In 2025, he qualified as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and became a registered specialist in small animal surgery. 

Dr. Liam Donaldson is a specialist in veterinary emergency and critical care with a genuine passion for helping animals through some of their toughest moments. He graduated from James Cook University in Townsville, Australia, with a degree in Veterinary Science, finishing top of his class. After that, he completed a rotating internship where he discovered his love for critical care medicine.  Liam’s career has been shaped by a mix of academic curiosity and a drive to make a real difference in veterinary care. He completed a residency in emergency and critical care at the University of Melbourne, along with two master’s degrees. His research focused on the anti-inflammatory and endothelial-protective effects of lidocaine in dogs undergoing abdominal surgery. In 2019, he became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Beyond the exam room, Liam is passionate about sharing knowledge. He’s published research in journals and textbooks and has presented at international conferences on topics ranging from mechanical ventilation to transfusion medicine—areas he’s especially interested in. Today, Liam leads the Emergency and Critical Care team at Greencross Veterinary Hospital at the University of Melbourne.

Dr Kayoko Kuroda graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2006. Since completing her degree, she has pursued her twin passions of teaching and clinical practice while working in small animal general practice around Queensland. She obtained Membership in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2018. Dr Kayo is currently working as a consultant at Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in Sunshine Coast (QLD) and roving veterinary dentistry referral practice, Mobile Pet Dentistry, as well as working as a small animal dentistry consultant at a small animal general practice a few days a week in Brisbane, Dr Kayo has also been working as an educator and providing small animal dentistry lectures and workshops across Australia, and overseas, including Sydney University CVE.

Philip graduated from Massey University a while ago and worked for 7 years in general practice before moving to Australia to undertake emergency/critical care training at the University of Melbourne. Philip has worked in Emergency and Critical Care for nearly 30 years, has published in scientific literature, and lectured at national and international conferences, and is co-founder of veteducation.com, which creates and runs online courses and webinars, providing CPD to vets and nurses all over the world. Philip loves all types of emergency cases - but is particularly partial to those in sepsis or requiring ventilation therapy. When not working, Philip can usually be found running with his crazy dog, Vlad, or on his mountain bike with an equally crazy cat, Tia 

Dr Annika graduated from Murdoch University in 2005, and went on to do a rotating internship at BVSC in Brisbane, where she became interested in oncology and pathology. This lead to undertaking a residency in pathology at Murdoch, and becoming a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists via examination in pathobiology in 2009. Dr Annika has established and worked in general practices on Brisbane northside, in emergency at AEC for a couple of years, as well as pursued her interest in oncology and pathology further via a PhD in cancer immunology in dogs at the University of Queensland. She is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathology, and dedicates her time between Greencross WebVet, cancer immunotherapy development, and pathology continuing education consulting.

Cat Walker is a Veterinary Mediator & Conflict Coach, Lawyer, Registered Veterinary Nurse, International Speaker, Veterinary Mental Health Peer Worker, and Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland’s School of Veterinary Science. With extensive experience in the veterinary sector, Cat has successfully owned and managed both general practice and emergency hospitals. She is also a published author on the topic of clinical communication for veterinary professionals and is currently completing her Graduate Certificate in Mental Health and Neuroscience.

Cat is the founding director of a veterinary complaints outsourcing service, partnering with clinics to implement a comprehensive approach to minimizing client conflict and complaints. Cat empowers veterinary teams to enhance patient outcomes by effectively navigating conflict using evidence-based strategies rooted in conflict theory and neuroscience.

Drawing from her background in performing arts, Cat’s speaking style is interactive, engaging, and highly professional. Her practical talks equip delegates with actionable strategies that can be readily applied in their work environments

Asha is a registered and accredited veterinary nurse with over 19 years of veterinary industry experience. Holding a Diploma of Veterinary Nursing specializing in Emergency and Critical Care, she spent 16 years at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital where she developed her expertise in clinical excellence, education, and leadership. In her current role as Emergency and Critical Care Team Leader at the Greencross Veterinary Hospital at the University of Melbourne, Asha continues to lead with a focus on innovation, collaboration and high clinical care standards.

 

Asha has been an active contributor to the veterinary nursing profession beyond her clinical roles. After serving in leadership roles on state committees, she was elected to the National Board of Directors of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) in 2020. In April this year, she was elected into the role of President of the VNCA, where she works to advocate for the nursing industry across Australia.

 

Passionate about education and mentorship, Asha is a lecturer at tertiary institutions in Melbourne and regularly presents at conferences and professional events where she is regarded as an expert in the field of emergency & critical care. She is a published author in the Australian Veterinary Nurses Journal and actively mentors junior and student nurses. To further support her pursuit in learning and teaching, Asha is currently studying a Masters degree in Clinical Education.

Lance graduated from the University of Queensland in 2000 and after eight years in general practice, including the obligatory UK locum circuit, returned to UQ as a staff surgeon.

He commenced a residency training program in 2010 and in 2015 attained Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery.

Lance was head of the small animal surgery department at UQ until leaving in January 2017 to help create ARH Brisbane as a founding partner.

Lance remains passionate about all aspects of surgery, however has a special interest in neurosurgery, complex fracture repair and limb deformity correction.

Lance is kept busy and grounded by his beautiful wife Kirsten, three gorgeous children, a pack of dogs and a few tame cattle. In his little spare time, Lance enjoys the outdoors, spending time with his family and hobbling around the football field.

Dr. Basuki graduated from the University of Queensland in 2010. She worked as a general practitioner followed by a couple of internships in Australia before undertaking a 3-year Dentistry and Oral Surgery residency and master’s degree program at Colorado State University. She became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College, joined Tufts University as a specialist and an Adjunct Associate Professor. She returned to Australia in 2020 to become the first and only registered veterinary dental specialist in Queensland. She holds a position as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Queensland and has been actively delivering lectures and dental workshops at numerous national and international veterinary conferences. In 2024, she founded Sabertooth Vet Dental Specialist, an independent vet dental referral practice (Brisbane, Australia).
