Our specialist practitioners provide world-class medical care in surgery, internal medicine, oncology and neurology, and will talk you through a range of treatment options for your pet.

Your ARH specialist will also work closely with your regular veterinarian to ensure a coordinated approach to your pet’s care.

Our specialists have undertaken years of advanced training in veterinary medicine. After graduating as veterinarians they have completed internship and residency programs. They have sat and passed rigorous examinations that subsequently allow them to be registered in Australia as a specialist. Veterinary specialists are recognised by their peers as having the highest level of skills and knowledge within their field of veterinary medicine.

 

 

ARH offers a comprehensive range of surgical solutions for dogs and cats including orthopaedic, soft tissue, trauma, reconstructive and neurological surgery. Led by our specialist surgeons, we take a considered approach to surgery and will provide a thorough plan to help ensure the best result for your pet.

Common surgical procedures performed at ARH include stifle (knee) stabilisation procedures for cruciate ligament insufficiency, fracture repair, limb deformity correction, arthroscopy, abdominal and thoracic surgery, reconstructive surgery, hemilaminectomy and ventral slot procedures for intervertebral disc disease and spinal stabilisation for vertebral fracture/luxation.

We are fully equipped with the most up to date surgical equipment and implants including:

  • Standard and locking, titanium and stainless-steel plates for fracture repair
  • Minimally invasive (keyhole) surgical equipment for arthroscopy, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy
  • External fixation implants for limb deformity correction and fracture repair

Our internal medicine specialists are qualified in both canine and feline internal medicine. They treat a broad range of cases such as gastrointestinal disease (including liver, pancreas and bowel disease); cardiac and respiratory disease; endocrine problems (such as diabetes and thyroid disease); kidney and liver; immune system; and joint disease.

 

The internal medicine team at ARH Brisbane consists of Dr Elizabeth Dill-Macky, who has more than 30 years experience in the field, Dr Emily Cook and Dr Gemma Birnie.

 

The training and experience of our internal medicine specialists enables them to work with your local veterinarian to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. Our specialists receive referrals for patients that are critically ill as well as those with chronic or ongoing problems.

 

They are able to use their expertise combined with diagnostic tools, including endoscopy, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI, to investigate the cause of a pet’s illness and to offer the best possible advice on treatment options.

Our surgical oncology specialist provide a truly comprehensive veterinary cancer treatment service.

 

Upon seeing one of our oncologists further tests may be recommended for your pet and can include advanced diagnostic imaging such as radiology, ultrasound, CT or MRI.

 

Our oncologists will discuss all available treatment options and together you will decide the best course of treatment for you and your family. Oncology treatment is supported by our ARH specialists in medicine and intensive care to allow the very best outcome possible.

Working with our surgical specialists, Dr Lance Wilson, Dr Jarrod Drew and Dr Maurine Thomson, our team assesses, diagnoses and treats diseases involving the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.

Common diseases include:

To ensure optimal care for our patients, our neurology team works with our colleagues in medicine, oncology, imaging and emergency/critical care, and is supported by a dedicated, highly trained nursing team and the physiotherapy service.

Our in-house MRI, CT, ultrasound and endoscopy diagnostic facilities allow us to investigate a patient’s problem and offer the best possible advice on treatment options. We have Queensland’s only in-house veterinary high field (1.5 Tesla) MRI machine, operated by our vets and human radiographers to optimise MR imaging, with diagnostic expertise provided by a specialist veterinary radiologist.

Make a booking

To make a booking, you will need a referral from your regular veterinarian to see an ARH specialist. Appointments can be made by contacting a member of our reception team on (07) 3172 0593 or brisbane@arhvets.com. We have free onsite parking.

Please bring your referral letter with you as well as any other information such as x-rays and current medication. Please enquire with our reception team at the time of booking in case there are any special requirements your pet needs prior to your appointment i.e. fasting or withholding medications.

Depending on the nature of your pet’s illness you will meet with either a surgical, medical or oncological specialist. Our specialists will discuss your pet’s history and assess your pet. Your pet may need to stay in hospital for further diagnostic work or treatment so we advise keeping some flexibility where possible on the day of your appointment.

Our specialists will provide a complete range of options for your pet’s treatment including prognosis and an estimation of costs. Our specialists will work closely with your referring veterinarian to ensure a coordinated approach is taken to your pet’s care.
