Beyond Diagnostics: Interventional Medicine
Our department is at the forefront of "minimally invasive" veterinary medicine, offering advanced procedures. Beyond ultrasound, organ sampling, CT and MRI, our department also offers:
- Laser Lithotripsy: Precise removal of bladder and urethral stones using laser technology.
- Non-Invasive Ectopic Ureter Correction: Correcting congenital issues via cystoscopy for faster recovery.
- Interventional Stenting: Life-saving placement of stents for obstructed airways or urinary tracts.
- Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies: Real-time, high-definition "moving X-rays" to diagnose complex swallowing disorders.
- Bone Marrow Biopsy: Expert collection and analysis for complex blood and immune-mediated diseases.
- I-131 Radioactive Iodine: The gold-standard, non-invasive cure for feline hyperthyroidism.
- Nuclear Medicine (Scintigraphy): Advanced functional imaging to see what standard X-rays cannot.
- FMT (Faecal Microbiota Transplant): Restoring gut health through innovative biological science. Including enema and capsule based therapy.
So, no matter your pet’s needs, we are uniquely positioned to access all the tools needed to diagnose and treat them.
Comprehensive System Expertise:
We manage the "invisible engines" of your pet’s health, specialising in the management of:
- Endocrinology & Immunology: Mastering hormonal balances and treating the body when it fights itself (e.g autoimmune disease, Cushings disease, complex diabetes, thyroid disease, unexplained fevers)
- Infectious disease: Treating virus', bacteria, parasites of the body (e.g Feline infectious peritonitis, recurrent infections, systemic infections)
- Chronic disease management: Provide a clear roadmap to managing your pets' chronic conditions (chronic IBD, chronic coughing, chronic renal disease, chronic immune mediated disease).
- Cancer investigation: diagnosing and investigating cases with suspected cancer (e.g. lymphoma, intestinal cancers, adrenal cancers, lung cancers, kidney cancers). We get to the bottom of the disease and ensure your pet receives the best possible treatment.
- Organ Recovery: Specialist management of the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract.
- Cardio-Respiratory & Neurological Disease: Managing complex heart, lung, and brain conditions
A Multidisciplinary approach:
Because medicine doesn't exist in a vacuum, our patients benefit from direct on-site collaboration with our fellow specialists in Neurology, Oncology, Radiology, Critical Care, Anaesthesia, pain management and Surgery. This ensures that no matter how complex the case, every angle is covered by an expert.
We care deeply about the outcome and care for your animals, after all, they are not just pets; they are family members.
Referrals and appointments
Most Internal Medicine consultations are arranged via referral from your regular veterinarian or through our emergency service. Once we receive a referral, we’ll guide you through the next steps, including what to bring, what to expect on the day, and likely timeframes for results.
We keep referring vet updated throughout your pet’s journey to help ensure treatment is coordinated and ongoing care is seamless.
Next steps
If you’re concerned your pet may need an internal medicine referral, speak with your regular veterinarian. If your pet is acutely unwell or deteriorating (for example, persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, collapse, or severe lethargy), please seek urgent care through our emergency service.
