I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible team at Greencross Veterinary Hospital. We recently had to bring our boy, Rocky, in for an emergency visit, and the level of care he received was absolutely sensational. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Maija Hagman and every single person who attended to Rocky. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was compassionate, thorough, and so reassuring. I especially want to give a massive shoutout to the vet students! Your dedication, gentleness, and professionalism truly stood out, you are all going to make phenomenal veterinarians. Going to the vet for an emergency is incredibly stressful, but this team completely put our minds at ease and treated Rocky with so much genuine love. We were so deeply pleased with the service and the standard of care provided from start to finish. If you are ever in need of veterinary care and want a team that will treat your pet like their own family, I cannot recommend Greencross Vets highly enough. Thank you to everyone who helped us for making us feel so supported and for taking such amazing care of Rocky!

Got my pet rabbit desexed here (plus a general checkup and immunisations, and treatment for earmites). As a first-time pet owner I am blessed to be living so close to such a good, well-staffed vet hospital. They have nice, professional nurses and receptionists who know their stuff, and two exotic vets here who are both experts in their field. Dr Ollie was recommended to me by a nice (and responsible! Thank you lady.) receptionist at another vet clinic, when I asked about rabbit specialisation. He was the one we first saw. I told him this was my first time having a rabbit, indeed having my own pet, and he took sooo much time to talk me through all things (all!) rabbit care while letting my rabbit get comfortable roaming and exploring the room. He also explained exactly what he was doing every step of his interaction with my bun. His whole vibe is like the main character in The Good Doctor Quite calming to the rabbit and the human alike. He also gave me top tips on where to look for better quality and much, much cheaper hay than the bags with cute rabbits printed on them that you'll find in every pet store (i.e. go where they sell mini bales of hay for horses--Pet Stock Hoppers Crossing is what I found.) Dr Suse (Suz? Suze?) is the vet who saw us the second time and who performed my rabbit's surgery. Dr Ollie assured me she was very good when we booked in. She's a bit older and also very warm, calm, approachable and reassuring. Both she and Nurse Vanessa were so lovely checking in and filling me in on how the procedure went, how my bunny was behaving really cute (yes, I know) and what to look out for during recovery. They're really great for/with the animals. No pretense. More recently (around 3 months ago?) , I took my rabbit in because he was showing signs of GI stasis, which I knew rabbits can die from. The rabbit vets weren't on shift and the emergency was fully at capacity, but the professional and caring receptionist asked about my rabbit's symptoms, listened to my descriptions (no eating or pooping for extended period of time; distinct stretch motion I had seen in a YouTube video about the condition) and clearly informed me that this was an emergency and the rabbit needed to be seen that same night. She then gave me the contacts for two other after-hour clinics and long story short, two late-night emergency visits, some pain relief and roughly $600 later, I still have a healthy happy rabbit today. P.s. If a similar situation ever happens again, of the two other places that Greencross referred me to I would probably go straight to the second place (CARE Emergency Vet Hospital in Collingwood) and maybe skip the one in Kensington--nothing seroously wrong with them but I felt a bit more personal care/assurance and more rabbit knowledge/ experience in the second place. They even had some bok choy for my bun). Maybe could have saved $270? I don't know. Photos: not related to the post (except as evidence of said healthy, happy rabbit?)

We are so grateful to the team at Greencross Vet Hospital. Dr Rui and Dr Charlotte were so kind and gentle with our beautiful girl (and us). We felt very informed at every step. Our concerns were heard and taken seriously and every single person that was involved in Dollies care and the staff we encountered were absolutely amazing. Truly. We had to make that very hard decision. We chose peace for our baby. We will never forget the care and support Dr Rita gave us in the hardest moment. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Though its been a hard few weeks, we know Dollie had the best care possible.

Beyond Diagnostics: Interventional Medicine

Our department is at the forefront of "minimally invasive" veterinary medicine, offering advanced procedures. Beyond ultrasound, organ sampling, CT and MRI, our department also offers:

  • Laser Lithotripsy: Precise removal of bladder and urethral stones using laser technology.
  • Non-Invasive Ectopic Ureter Correction: Correcting congenital issues via cystoscopy for faster recovery.
  • Interventional Stenting: Life-saving placement of stents for obstructed airways or urinary tracts.
  • Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies: Real-time, high-definition "moving X-rays" to diagnose complex swallowing disorders.
  • Bone Marrow Biopsy: Expert collection and analysis for complex blood and immune-mediated diseases.
  • I-131 Radioactive Iodine: The gold-standard, non-invasive cure for feline hyperthyroidism.
  • Nuclear Medicine (Scintigraphy): Advanced functional imaging to see what standard X-rays cannot.
  • FMT (Faecal Microbiota Transplant): Restoring gut health through innovative biological science. Including enema and capsule based therapy.

So, no matter your pet’s needs, we are uniquely positioned to access all the tools needed to diagnose and treat them.

Comprehensive System Expertise:

We manage the "invisible engines" of your pet’s health, specialising in the management of:

  • Endocrinology & Immunology: Mastering hormonal balances and treating the body when it fights itself (e.g autoimmune disease, Cushings disease, complex diabetes, thyroid disease, unexplained fevers)
  • Infectious disease: Treating virus', bacteria, parasites of the body (e.g Feline infectious peritonitis, recurrent infections, systemic infections)
  • Chronic disease management: Provide a clear roadmap to managing your pets' chronic conditions (chronic IBD, chronic coughing, chronic renal disease, chronic immune mediated disease).
  • Cancer investigation: diagnosing and investigating cases with suspected cancer (e.g. lymphoma, intestinal cancers, adrenal cancers, lung cancers, kidney cancers). We get to the bottom of the disease and ensure your pet receives the best possible treatment.

This ensures that no matter how complex the case, every angle is covered by an expert.

We care deeply about the outcome and care for your animals, after all, they are not just pets; they are family members.

Emergency and Critical Care at Greencross Vet Hospital

Our emergency service is open 24/7. If your pet is seriously unwell or injured, you don’t need an appointment; please come straight in as soon as possible. If you can, call us on the way so we can prepare for your arrival, but don’t delay coming in if you can’t call.

Our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) service operates like a human Emergency Department and uses a triage-based approach. Every pet is assessed on arrival, and patients are treated in order of clinical urgency. That means the most critical pets are seen immediately, while stable patients may wait if higher-priority emergencies are being managed. We’ll keep you updated throughout your pet’s visit.

Our ECC team provides urgent assessment, stabilisation and intensive care for pets with life-threatening conditions. For patients who need close support, Greencross Vet Hospital has a dedicated Pet ICU with continuous monitoring, intensive nursing care, and access to advanced diagnostics and our specialist teams when needed.

  • Pain management, sedation and anaesthesia support
  • ICU nursing care

What to bring and what to expect

If possible, please bring (or send through) any relevant information, including current medications, recent test results or imaging, and your pet’s medical history. If you suspect your pet has eaten something harmful, such as human medications or other toxins,  a photo of the product or packaging can be very helpful.

On arrival, a nurse will triage your pet and assess the urgency of their care. Pets are treated in order of clinical priority, and if your pet requires immediate stabilisation, our team will act straight away. Once your pet is stable, we’ll discuss findings, recommended treatment options, expected timeframes and costs, and we’ll provide regular updates while your pet is in our care — including if admission to our Pet ICU is recommended for ongoing intensive monitoring and treatment.
